Our client is seeking applicants with experience of:

Management Responsibilities:

Ability to manage an assigned team of Development Designers/ Engineers and to direct the development in such a way as to deliver the most appropriate & cost effective solution for the business.

An awareness of the challenges of other departments, ie Sales and Project Management on any given project so that proactive actions by Development as appropriate are offered.

The ability to calmly respond to regular short notice requests from our Clients and to process them effectively. Also to respond via decisions that show due consideration for the impact on all departments beyond the Development.

Lastly able to communicate in a succinct and clear manner to the other department colleagues to explain either technical detail or to convey detail of the project progress.

Technical Responsibilities:

Ability to deliver an industry standard of technical manufacturing drawings in a 3D cad engineering platform.

A quality of discipline to ensure their own and assigned team’s work is of a high quality of accuracy and delivered in a timely manner.

A depth of knowledge in some - if not most of - a wide variety of materials and Sheet & tube steel construction and finishing. Also an understanding of plastic fabrication & injection moulding.

  1. JOB PURPOSE

Fulfil development role within the studio. Liaising directly with all assigned project members to deliver strong support in all aspects of development within the portfolio with particular emphasis on the following -

2 PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Be an ambassador for Design, Creativity, Engineering and Production values applied to our client’s projects.
  • Apply best practice to achieve better accountability for success through design development for our clients
  • Provide mentoring and oversight to the development team that helps them achieve their agreed project objectives and roles.
  • In the absence of the Head of Development ensure the quality/ commerciality of any design development work produced
  • Allocate the work to the design development department in the absence of the Head of Development in conjunction with the Head of Design.
  • Take, analyse & feedback / any client briefing.
  • Ensure teams work is ‘on-brief’ & liaise with other departments for budget and production related development issues.
  • Project leadership. Control the internal or external assigned development resource to meet internal ARNO GB and Client goals.
  • Prepare and present project proposals for assigned development jobs.
  • Expected to input into team core business within the department:
    • Ideas for the growth, benefit and development of department needs/ output.
    • Give the Head of Development feedback for consideration within staff appraisals.
    • Ideas for development of our Client needs.
  • Be the lead presenter of any work undertaken by yourself or any member of the development team.
  • Oversee and mentor any initiated Student/ Junior program.
  • To review compliance of design to audit and collate for review risk assessments for use at prototype and first off production phases of project.
  • Retain empathy to the stated design concept and communicate all intended revisions to the project team.
  • Ensure that development proposals are driven to make most efficient use of materials both to minimise physical and financial waste and that consideration is given to alternative material sources that are more environmentally compliant.
  • Prepare cost reference drawings which enable the project manager to collate competitive budget costs in the allocated timescale as agreed by the project team
  • Prepare part and assembly drawings in CAD with appropriate detailed sections, views and specifications of materials to most effectively convey the manufacturing requirements to the manufacturer.
  • Ensure all designs are developed to fulfil their designed function to the consumer and without danger to their health and safety.
  • Support the manufacture of prototypes to a standard of quality that is acceptable to the company (using past and present projects as a benchmark ) and within a timescale as agreed by the project team.
  • Support coordination of final prototype assembly prior to presentation date, ensuring all elements are available on time and to a quality acceptable to the company.
  • Ensure all risk assessments and health and safety precautions are carried out prior to installation.
  • Support quality check of first off production samples ensuring continuity of detail from approved final prototypes.
  • Ensure that your project team and head of development is kept updated on the time status of any current project. Notify to the project team and head of development any change of brief that would require increased work to enable a revised quote to be issued to the client prior to proceeding.
